Baylari
The Baylari number less then a thousand and ages of constant warfare conspire to keep their population from growing larger. Time has given them a culture based on family history and achievement unrivaled, except for the Vaynari, throughout the Mortal Realm. There are twenty-one Baylari families, each with their own tradition and symbols. They are intensely proud of their family heritage and each family has a long lasting rivalry with one or more of the others. These rivalry's are more competitive then violent, with all the families acting together when threatened.
Since the War of the Seven, these cyclopedian warriors have been fighting their own blood war. Near the end of that cataclysmic conflict a great portal was opened within the depths of the massive Silverwood. A host of Morwaithean Demons was released into the world that swept across the surrounding lands, annihilating everything in its path. The host passed through the Jagged Hills, cleaving them to their very roots and totally destroying the most sizeable Baylari settlement at the time. Only those warriors fighting with the forces of light were spared. In the aftermath of the great war they took up an oath to hunt down every Demon in existence. They rebuilt their home in what was now called the Broken Hills and began to hunt the Demons that had transformed the Silverwood into the Great Gloom. This is no small task, but they continue to struggle on in their vengeance.
Appearance: The Baylari are seven to eight feet tall with wide shoulders and lean, yet muscular frames. They have dark, dusty skin and long black hair which they typically keep tied back with silver clasps. These clasps bear the family symbol and are passed down from one generation to the next. Their single eye is overly large and ranges in color from amber to light brown. The body of each Baylari bears a collection of colorful tattoo's which they collect over the course of their life spans. Each marks an important victory or event, and are often imbued with a useful mystical ability.
Armor and Weapons: Preferring the ability to move quickly and stealthily, they tend to shun heavier armors in favor of reinforced leathers, often fashioned from the skins of the Demons they hunt. The exception to this is during larger, organized battles or when conducting inter-family duels. For these they will often wear long tabards of fine chain links, brightly adorned with family symbols, and belted at the waist. Their weapon of choice is a long spear with a wickedly barbed steel or crystal blade.| Other Names: | Baylar, Baylon |

The Baylari believe strongly in the power of signs and marks. They use a collection of arcane symbols to bind spiritual energies to their bodies. These bindings can be permanent in the form of tattoo's or temporary in the form of blood marks. Tattoo's can only bestowed by the elder Spiritweaver of each family and have to be earned through acts of valor and honor. They imbue the recipient with a variety of useful powers. Blood marks are symbols that can be carved into the skin to briefly invest an individual with a simple mystical effect. Every Baylari can learn to make these marks and they can be used on themselves and other living beings.
